Gizmos, Gadgets and Gimmicks

RSS

The online tutorial for the RSS (In Plain English Series) was wonderful – clear and easy to follow. Who knew technology could actually be useful and work for you, instead of against you (ha ha). Before today RSS was a scary concept, one that I was more than willing to let slide, but now I see it as a great way to keep track of all the changes made to students blogs and to keep me up to date with new articles and items on my favourite site.

Now all I need is about three weeks to surf and set up, then world domination is only a click away.

Tags and Images

Oh delicious…where have you been all my life??? For someone like myself who is scatty at the best of times, the idea of a central network for my favourite websites is absolute heaven. Add to this the idea of tags to help me sift and sort my resources as well as the option to share these resources with friends and students undoubtably makes my life so much more efficient. I can definitely see myself sending links to students to explore certain sites.

My students have also experimented with various sites where they can create their own images using Graffiti Creator, Glass Giant and Easy Street – loads of fun and a great way to add a little personalised flair to PowerPoint presentations, Email signatures and Wikis. The possibilities are endless.

Life Long Learning

At times I feel a little like a magician entering the classroom. With my bag of tricks in tow I endeavour to engage a host of children with different skills, interests and learning styles.

I beleive the secret to promoting life long learning and student engagement is variety. Ensuring opportunities for independent inquiry and self discovery. To assist with this I am forever dipping into the magic bag for a range of tools-  tools and ideas that will hook and intrigue the individual.

This blog will be my digitial record of and reflection on the various strategies, the gizmos, gadgets and gimmicks (both digital and non) that I can use at any stage.
